We are responsible for our own health. We need to learn the knowledge we need to know to be optimally well, integrate it into our lifestyle and become it.
I’m not saying there is no space for modern medicine- because there absolutely is! I’ve used it and there are times I recommend it for others. But I always recommend and try holistic and integrative treatments first.
Many people also believe that just because they are not “sick” that they are well. But really most people are not optimally well. Even when you feel ok, know that you can continue to optimize your health more and more and more.
I believe that it is our responsibility to care for ourselves first!! Our number one priority should be radical self-care.
Radical self-care can include:
- optimal nourishment
- mindful movement
- quality sleep
- fulfilling purposes
- setting and maintaining boundaries
- saying no
- and so much more!
I want you to start to think about what radical self-care means to you. How do you care for your SELF?
Many people believe that self-care means a day at the spa, going out for a shopping spree, going to the gym or going on a vacation. These things could be true self-care but most of the time they are not. They are more like a distraction from the person’s regular life.
Instead to start to practice true radical self-care you need to choose to become radically AWARE!
Radical awareness of your SELF is key to practice radical self-care and therefore, cultivate optimal health and well-being. We need to get to know our true self. And most people don’t know their true self.
I did not know my true self till my healing journey. It was my healing journey that forced me to go deep and dig into mind-body healing where I learned about the true-self. I realized I was wearing many masks that were not really me. When I chose to become AWARE of these masks and be real about them I was able to gradually start peeling them off. And underneath I could begin to see my true self and get to know my true self.
My true self was always there just covered. The more our true self is covered the more we are living out of alignment with your truths causing conflict in our mind body emotion soul system. And imbalances in our mind body emotion soul system lead to sickness and disease- the things the mainstream world calls symptoms.
Symptoms are really just a sign that something is off in our mind body emotion soul system and that we need to address that thing that is off.
It our job to discover what that is and make the changes we need to make in life.
The reason many people don’t practice radical self-care is because it’s not always easy.
It’s not always easy to admit that you don’t love your spouse anymore and it’s time to get a divorce. It’s not always easy to quit a job yet not know what your next step is. It’s not always easy to do things different than how you were taught you should do life.
Practicing radical self-care takes grit and grace.
It takes strength. It takes a deep commitment to YOU and your purposes in this life! It takes perseverance and patience. It often takes support and community too.
Know that you have support and community here.
I’m committed to being aware in the moments of my life and noticing what is off and when i need to shift and experimenting with new things and noticing what does work and acting outside the box and taking action and finding my tribe that also lives and thinks outside the box- I’m all in.
Do I do it perfectly? No way!!!
And you don’t need to either. You will mess up and get off course and that is part of the game. Laugh at yourself and hop right back on your radical self-care mission.
What is your first step?
- Your first step is to start to become more AWARE. Commit to radical awareness.
- Next, set a timer for 10 minutes and free write about areas of your life that you sense are off.
- Finally, choose just one area to experiment with change. Start to experiment with new things in just this one area until you sense you got it. Notice if you start to FEEL better in your whole being.
